1. What is the conceptual framework?Judaism as a religious civilization, not solely a religion
2. What is the foundational thinker?Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan (1881–1983)
3. Why do Reconstructionist Jews think of Judaism as a civilization, not just a religion?Because seeing it only as a religion can limit how it adapts to new ideas, while a civilization view lets them mix science, culture, and modern values while keeping Jewish identity.
4. How does Reconstructionist Judaism treat Jewish law (halakha)? They see it as a human-made tradition that can be studied and adapted, not a fixed rule that must always be followed, so communities decide together what works today.

Religious Civilization: A comprehensive understanding of Judaism encompassing peoplehood, culture, history, values, and evolving practices.
Post-Halakhic: A stance on Jewish law that acknowledges its historical significance but does not consider it strictly binding in the traditional sense.
Communal Decision-Making: A process where a community collectively engages with tradition and determines its contemporary practices.
Modernity: The current era, characterized by scientific advancement, secularism, and evolving social norms, which Reconstructionism seeks to integrate with Jewish life.
