Answers below are taken from the article’s stored facts, so they match what the student read.

1. What is the scientific name?Chlorophyta
2. What is the diet?Autotrophic; synthesize organic compounds via photosynthesis using chlorophyll a and b
3. What are green algae and why are they important?Green algae are tiny green plants that live in water and make their own food using sunlight. They produce oxygen and form the base of many food webs.
4. How do green algae help make the air we breathe?Through photosynthesis, green algae turn sunlight and carbon dioxide into oxygen, giving us the air we need to breathe.

Chlorophyta: The phylum of algae characterized by green pigments, considered the direct ancestors of land plants.
Photosynthesis: The biochemical process by which light energy is converted into chemical energy, producing oxygen as a byproduct.
Primary Producers: Organisms that form the base of food webs by synthesizing organic compounds from inorganic sources, primarily via photosynthesis.
Autotrophic: An organism capable of synthesizing its own food from simple inorganic substances, typically using light energy.
